*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*
*THE LIGHT CAN NOT LOSE HIS POWER (2).*
*Scripture Treasure.*
John 1:5 *And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.*
*Insight and Highlight.*
John 8:12 *"......l am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.*
*Scripture Commentaries.*
Jesus was not only telling us that sudden shining of the light will take away darkness, but He was also telling us about the evil of darkness. This is that, when darkness takes over someone's life, he will not be able to fully perceive the brilliance of light. In other words, such a person will not be able to recognize the truth anymore.
The following will help us to further understand this illustration.
First, darkness represents ignorance and foolishness or lack of understanding.
Paul prayed for the Ephesians.
In Eph 1:18, Paul he said *The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,*
He also prayed for the Corinthians.
He said in 2 Cor 4:6 *For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.*
It is through the word of God that we can receive cure for ignorance.
The Psalmist says in Ps 119:130 *The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.*
The light gives the knowledge of truth, to grasp what is good, to do what is right and godly.
Second, Jesus tells us that there are two kingdoms.
One is the light. The other is darkness.
Jesus words warned against the evil of darkness and how it blinds.
He is teaching us that darkness means evil.
Darkness is a domain. It is a kingdom governed by Satan. Darkness can dominate people's lives. It is the opposite of the Kingdom of light under God's rulership.
Colossians 1:13
God has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of His beloved Son,
Blindness causes an evil mind, and this rejects salvation.
So Paul also prayed for the early Church so that they could grasp the concept of good.
There must be a turn from darkness to light.
Acts 26:18 says *To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.*
People walk in darkness.
Darkness is often used as a symbol of evil and sin. Prov 4:19 says, *"The way of the wicked is like deep darkness;......"*
To walk in darkness means a sinful lifestyle.
John warns us in 1 John 1:6 *If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:*
In both Prov 4:19 and 1 John 1:6, the words "the way of the wicked" and "walk in darkness" both mean a lifestyle of daily living in sin.
While only through God can we see through darkness, ref Ps 139:12, but evil people literally walk in and operate in darkness
because their works are evil. It is their most active time.
Prov 4:16 says the wicked man can not sleep and their sleeps are taken away because they want to cause someone to stumble.
Ps 36:4 says the evil man plots evil on his bed.
Third, Jesus teaches that darkness is another word for 'hidden works so that they are not exposed'.
The wicked have a mindset that they can commit evil deeds without God's knowledge or judgment.
They believe they could commit their evil and cover their tracts where no one would see them. This explains their preference of darkness.
Isaiah 29:15 says, *Woe to those who dig deep to hide their plans from the Lord, and who do their work in darkness, saying, 'Who sees us? Who knows us?*
John 3:20 says, *Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.*
Darkness is separation from God. While those who walk in darkness walk away from God, those who walk in the light fellowship with God.
Jesus says in John 8:12 *Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.*
Eph 5:8 says *For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.*
Remember that the presence of darkness in this world is an indication of the need for the Light.
The Light knows what darkness is and is able to lighten over it, but darkness is rebellious to accept the dominance of the Light.
You know what you do when there is darkness in your home, don't you?
If you know you have to light a candle, a lamp or a tourch light, because you can not see in the dark, then you know darkness is not good for you!
God said, *Let there be light, and there was light.*, Gen 1:3.
The Light can not lose His power.
Light up your life today!
Call on God.
*Remorse corner.*
Jesus' words that darkness can not comprehend the light is also Jesus' warning of the 'war' between light and darkness.
The word 'comprehend' means to understand, which means that though people are presented with the truth of God's word, they will still not fully understand or accept it.
*Call to Word action.*
In response to this, Paul prayed that the eyes of those in darkness may be given understanding.
*The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,* Eph 1:18.
*The Christian clarion duty.*
The Light can not lose His power!
The more you walk in the light, the more you will see the light.
Psalm 36:9 *For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.*
*Prayer.*
Lord, keep me away from darkness; the kingdom of ignorance and negativity.
Give me the Light; the Kingdom of knowledge, truth, goodness, and godliness in Jesus name.
Good morning all, and have a blessed day.
God bless you.
