THE TREE OF KNOWLEDGE?(2)

*WISDOM FOR TODAY.*

*THE TREE OF KNOWLEDGE? (2)*

*Scripture Treasure.*

Ps 82:5-7

*They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.*

*I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.*

*But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.*

*Insight and Highlight.*

The tree of knowledge of good and evil was not good for food because when eaten, Adam would still walk in darkness, not knowing what was good.

*Scripture Commentaries.*

Today, we will continue to look at the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Another reason why God did not want Adam to eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil was because He did not want him to know evil.

Furthermore, though the knowledge of evil tells you what good is, the danger that God wanted to prevent was that when good and evil stand side by side evil tend to prevail, ref 1 Kgs 21:8-15.

Paul said in Gal 4:16 *Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?*

From the moment the Pharisees knew Jesus's mission *"....they took counsel together for to put him to death.*, John 11:53.

There is more evil in the world than good.

There are more evil people than good.

Evil/bad news is a money rolling industry.

Before you hear one good news, you would have heard a lot of bad news.

God's statement on the heart of men was about the evil in their hearts.

Jeremiah's statement about the heart of men was about the evil in their hearts, Jer 17:9.

When Jesus was called Good master by a man running to ask how he may inherit eternal life, Jesus told him *......Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.* Mk 10:17-18.

Jesus was not saying He was not good, but

that the standard lacking mostly in the children of men was strict obedience to God's commandments and that even when they do, they often select which to do or not to do.

The man claimed to obey all the commandments, but he could not give because he had great possessions, ref Mk 10: 19-25

Also, what we call good is not always good.

because of this, good has lost its goodness in some ways, ref Prov 14:12.

Why would God not want them to eat of a tree that had the knowledge of good?

Why would He tell Adam he would die if he ate the tree of knowledge of good?

This is because the good offered by that tree was not good enough to make Adam good, especially when evil accompanied it.

The combination of the tree of knowledge of good and evil was too dangerous. What kind of fruit would this tree bring?

It is either a tree is good or bad. No wonder it was *".....good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise,......"* Gen 3:6 but brought fatal consequences when the fruit it bore was eaten.

Jesus said in Matt 7:17-19

*Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.*

*A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.*

*Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.*

So if the tree of knowledge of good and evil was good to eat from, it would not bring forth a fruit that brought transgressions and death. So God knew what He was saying to warn Adam against it.

God is good, and His goodness stands alone, having no evil attached to it.

The world is bad today because good and evil go together. Evil resists good. People do not want to hear and obey the truth.

*Remorse corner.*

It is not that God does not want you to have the knowledge of good, but where good and evil go together, they become too close that evil becomes the immediate alternative.

The people who reject the truth will immediately be given over to believing falsehoods, ref 2 Thess 2:11

*Call to Word action.*

The world is ruled by evil, 1 John 5:19. Good will be restored at the end of age.

In the parable of the good seed, Jesus said the good seed (the wheat) and the tares (the bad seed) grow together. Jesus said they would not be separated until the time of harvest (the day of judgment).

Then He would *"......say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.*, Matt 13:30.

*The Christian clarion duty.*

When good stands alone, it thrives alone.

*Prayer.*

Lord, help me to stand on the truth and what is good. I confess that l do not have any alternative to good. Help me to resist evil, in Jesus name.

Good morning all, and have a blessed day.

God bless you.
