Scripture Commentaries
It is worrisome how someone who has tasted the goodness of God would descend to caring less about how God feels about his inconsistencies.
Eli (1 Sam 3:18), king Hezekiah (Is 39:8), stand as prime examples of God's most faithful men who at a crucial time of their lives refused to render the penitence expected of them.
Ahab, the king of Israel and the worst king in the history of the divided Kingdom did the unexpected by humbling himself in the face of God's fierce judgment, ref 1 Kgs 21:29. God obliged and postponed judgment over him and his household.
At times people who have experienced God and have partaken in the Holy Spirit often get too over-familiar. The writer of Hebrew seriously warns on this, ref Heb 6:4-6.
God is looking for a heart that does not justify itself in sin and sinful conduct or one that resorts to God-pleasing himself over how He judges him instead of pleading for mercy.
